Explore the four critical elements of successful corrosion management: Threats, Barriers, Assurance, and Verification. This comprehensive training integrates insightful lectures, interactive discussions, and real-world case studies, providing practical applications that are relevant across various industries, beyond just upstream Oil and Gas.
The challenge with corrosion management lies in its often invisible nature, making proactive prevention essential. This course will guide you in developing a robust corrosion management system, aimed at reducing the need for extensive inspections while ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Gain a thorough understanding of how to implement effective strategies for managing corrosion on your assets. This training will enhance your ability to achieve operational reliability and handle corrosion challenges efficiently, making inspections less frequent but more impactful.
Day 1, Afternoon workshop:
Day 2, Morning lectures:
Day 2, Afternoon workshop:
The workshop will discuss the 4 elements (Treats, Barriers, Assurance and Verification tools) , essential for any successful corrosion management system. This is done through short lectures with ample opportunity for discussion. Case studies will help the participants to put what was learned during the lectures into practice. Although the current model is aimed at the corrosion processes in upstream Oil and Gas, the principle can be applied to any industry.
The 4-step methodology relies heavily on the use of checklists and pre-defined relationships between threats and barriers, between barriers and assurances and threat morphology and verification methods. Its focus is on the application of the corrosion management in the operational phase. It assumes that the design has done properly and the most appropriate barriers and assurance methods have been selected. As such any risk assessment concept is outside the scope of this workshop. However we will address the issue in the day 2 afternoon workshop if there is sufficient interest.
The corrosion management systems as discussed have been implemented in both Shell and BP.
Willem graduated as metallurgist from Delft Technical University in 1976 followed by 9 years of materials testing and failure analysis for a broad spectrum of industries. He joined Shell International EP in 1985 and has worked as a corrosion engineer with emphasis on pipelines (both design and operations) in Brunei, Norway, Nigeria, Netherlands, UK and US. He retired from Shell in 2010 and now works as independent consultant. Has extensive experience in developing and implementing corrosion management systems.
